November is Native American Heritage Month:

Celebrating Indigenous Peoples of Past & Present

November is National Native American Heritage Month, a time to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments of those who are the original inhabitants, explorers and settlers of the area we now call the United States.

President George H.W. Bush approved a joint resolution designating the month-long celebration in 1990. It has been observed every year since 1994.

This link from Smithsonian Institute leads to an exploration of the topic.

Special Event to Counter Misinformation –

Special Invitation from the LWV & National Institute for Civil Discourse

We know that many of you have been working hard for months and through election day at polling places to make sure voters had accurate, nonpartisan information to help them vote. THANK YOU for all you are doing to protect our democracy!

Many of you have been working to fight against information disorder by "pre-bunking", "debunking" and inoculating the public against mis/disinformation around the elections.  As you know, efforts to undermine confidence in the election process unfortunately continue.

So with that in mind, the LWV NICD plannning team wanted to share two things with you:

- The email below from our partners at the News Literacy Project with resources and messages from their new program "Rumor Guard".  Please use and share with your networks as you see fit!

 - To remind you of the webinar on November 17th  at 5 PM (ET) with the News Literacy Project's DeMario Phipps-Smith and NICD's Carolyn Lukensmeyer on how to talk to someone who believes misinformation as we gather for the holidays.

One in three U.S. residents experienced environmental disaster in 2021, from megadrought and lack of potable water, deadly heat waves and record-breaking wildfires in the West, ferocious hurricanes and flooding in the East, and tornado cells in the southeast. No one can escape the climate crisis, and poor and minority communities have been hit hardest.

Sustainable, scientific, and comprehensive solutions exist now to change the trajectory of global warming. However, it is urgent for all of us to take action to protect the Earth's biodiversity, restore ecosystems and establish justice for all.
