New Year - New Events and Activities!

 
Starting with an invitation from Dave Cortese - 

My office in collaboration with Assemblymember Ash Kalra and the California Student Aid Commission will be hosting a Cash for College Virtual Webinar on Wednesday January 18th, 2023 at 6:00pm.

In anticipation of the state financial aid priority deadline of March 2nd, we invite prospective college students and their families to this free webinar to learn more about the financial aid options available to you.

Topics covered in this Town Hall will include application submissions to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California Dream Act Application (CADAA).

And from LWV San Jose Santa Clara - Join for a Virtual Lunch with League with Santa Clara County Supervisor, Susan Ellenberg on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023 at 12 noon via ZOOM.
 

Supervisor Ellenberg, who became President of the Board of Supervisors on Jan. 10, will discuss the county’s progress in addressing major issues including mental illness and substance abuse disorders, childcare for greater economic stability, true public safety, and getting residents who are experiencing homelessness into stable housing. With the theme “Building Together,” she will present a framework for the necessary tools the county must employ to meet these challenges. There will be audience Q&A after her talk.

MAKING DEMOCRACY WORK/REPRESENTATIVE GOVERNMENT, February 1, 2023 Wed. 4:00-5:30pm: topics include local campaign finance reform, and civics education. Topics could also include civil discourse, good government principles such as protecting public participation (Brown Act issues), improving elections through ranked choice voting, public financing, districting or redistricting, increasing voter participation, and diversity, equity, inclusion issues.

January 6th Remembrance and Action sundown vigil – Event Recap

Leagues throughout Alameda County and California hosted a January 6th Remembrance and Action sundown vigil to remember the insurrection on January 6, 2021 and take action. The event featured LWV of the United States CEO, Virginia Kase Solomón; Carol Moon Goldberg, President of LWV California; and Roma Dawson, President of LWV of the Bay Area. The evening closed with a call to action.
