For many years the Leagues of Women Voters in Santa Clara Valley have represented the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters at the monthly citizenship ceremonies in the county, to assist in registering new citizens to vote after they take their oath of citizenship. LWVCS had done so as recently as January of 2025. League volunteers who participated always came away in awe of the celebration of new citizenship.
Then, a few days ago, the League coordinators were informed that the office of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) would no longer have room for the voter registration table at future ceremonies. The naturalization oath-taking will now be done in a parking lot, with no room for registration tables.
If you have already volunteered to staff registration tables at the citizenship ceremonies, we're sorry, but they are all canceled. We will still be doing registration tables at other events and at the Library, so please keep an eye out for those volunteering opportunities.
