About the League of Women Voters - LWV

Who we are and what we do

The League of Women Voters - LWV - is a nonpartisan political organization.

  • Nonpartisan means we  never endorse, support or oppose any political party or candidate.
  • Political means we work to support the informed and active participation of people in government, especially through voting.
  • And we work to influence public policy through education and advocacy.

Our Mission statement is  Defending Democracy.  Empowering Voters.

Our Vision, Beliefs, and Intentions guide our Studied Positions and our activities.

In pursuit of our mission, LWV has two separate and distinct roles:

  1. Voter Service & Community Education: We research and present unbiased nonpartisan information about candidates, the voting process and propositions and measures.

  2. Action and Advocacy: We start by working together to identify issues of concern, study those issues, and develop positions.  Positions can be created at the local, state, or national level.

Once we have a studied position on an issue we take action and advocate for or against particular policies or laws.
While we never  take action regarding political parties or candidates, we work hard to support our stated Positions.

We walk in the footsteps of brave women who for over a hundred years have championed democracy and the right to vote for all.
