           Empowering Voters.  Defending Democracy.

VOTER2025_ImportantUpdates
October 2025

We are moving quickly toward the special election on November 4th, and our League continues to play a vital role in educating and registering voters, as well as supporting the Registrar of Voters with ballot pickup and delivery. Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered for this important work. More opportunities will arise in the coming elections—keep an eye out for emails from Nina Wong-Dobbins so you can participate.

On October 7 at 7:00 p.m., we’ll host the final event in our County series at the Quinlan Center. This in-person forum will feature the candidates running for County Tax Assessor, followed by presentations of the pro and con arguments for Measure A and Proposition 50. We hope you’ll join us. There’s still time to register by clicking here, and the evening will be recorded and posted on our website a few days later. A heartfelt thank you to Debbie Timmers and Bruce Kendall for making this possible.

On September 9, all the Leagues in the county came together to present an outstanding program on Executive Powers. Special thanks to Tracey Edwards for envisioning the event and to our County League colleagues for securing two nationally respected legal minds—Pamela S. Karlan and David L. Sloss. If you missed it, you can view the recording on YouTube by clicking here.

Our September 27 Member Meet-Up drew over 20 members. The energy and commitment to protect democracy and the right to vote were inspiring. Thanks to Nina Wong-Dobbins for making this event happen and Marieann Shovlin for hosting. A special thanks to Nina and Pam Anderson for creating a wonderful document shared at this meeting. It outlines the League’s work and opportunities for education and advocacy. A copy of the document can be found here, so you can refresh your memory, be inspired or share it with prospective members, friends, and neighbors.

Several of us will also join the Political Club of Lynbrook High School on October 3 to register and pre-register students to vote—a vital step in empowering the next generation of voters. We look forward to expanding these outreach efforts in the future. If you’re interested in participating in similar events, please contact Pam Anderson or Polly Bove.

We’re excited for what lies ahead and grateful for your dedication to the League’s mission.

Hope to see you on October 7!

Polly Bove & Tracey Edwards

LWVUS is joining No Kings 2 as a national partner on Saturday, October 18
LWVUS has decided to become an official partner for this day of mobilization to stand in solidarity with partners and stand up against hate and authoritarianism. I’ll be attending a No Kings event in my own community. The League has consistently and boldly spoken up in the face of rising authoritarianism. This is an opportunity to put words into action and show up in defense of democracy and as an effective ally.
