Here's some more information about the measure:

Is the Regional Transit Measure (RTM) in November Ballot?

Yes. On November 3rd, voters in five Bay Area Counties will be asked to approve a Regional Transit Measure intended to help maintain the region’s major public transportation systems including: BART, AC Transit, Caltrain, and SF Muni.

Why is the League of Women Voters Bay Area supporting it?

The League of Women Voters Bay Area has been following transit issues for decades and tracking previous iterations and public review of this funding measure. The League bases its support on positions taken by national, state, and regional League of Women Voters. The League of Women Voters Bay Area supports the Regional Transit Measure on the November 3rd Ballot. We have signed the ballot measure argument and the rebuttal in all five participating counties.

We support promoting transportation systems that are accessible, equitable, and environmentally sustainable. Our positions also reflect the following:

  • Encouraging coordinated regional planning to address issues that transcend local boundaries.

  • Supporting policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality.

  • Ensuring that all residents have access to safe, reliable, and affordable transportation options.

  • Fostering informed and active participation in public policy decisions that affect our communities.

Why is this Measure needed?

Housing.  Food. Transportation.  These are essentials of urban life for those of us living in the Bay Area. Public transportation is not simply a convenience. For thousands of Bay area residents, it is essential to maintain employment and independence.

Which Bay Area Counties are affected?

Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, San Mateo and San Francisco. Transit systems servicing these counties could be forced to severely cut back or eliminate services and routes if adequate funding is not available.
