On 4/27/2026 the US Supreme Court struck a blow against fair election redistricting.

Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act prohibits voting district maps that result in "a denial or abridgement of the right of any citizen of the United States to vote on account of race or colo.r" The Court ruled that this requirement does not apply to how states draw voting district lines, only to how the voting process is administered.

The national League of Women Voters, along with other groups who filed a 'Friend of the Court' brief in the case, issued a joint statement in response to the decision.
LWV has filed suit against the March 31, 2026 Presidential Executive Order to over-ride state laws on mail-in voting.
