Co-Presidents' Updates
Election Season is here!
Only five weeks until the election!
We know you will vote.
Can we count on you help others to vote!
| | |
-
Here are some things you might say to a friend, relative, or neighbor to help turn out the vote:
- Your vote is your voice. It’s a way to express what you believe in and influence decisions that will impact you and your community.
- The issues that matter to you—whether it's education, healthcare, or the environment — are decided by the people we elect. Your vote helps shape those decisions.
- Even though one vote might feel small, elections are often decided by just a few votes. You could be the difference.
- Voting is a way to take responsibility for the future. If you don't vote, you're letting others decide for you.
Here is what our League can do help you and others make the voting process easier:
- Attend one of our candidate forums. We are hosting more than 10 forums this season.
- Attend one of our ballot proposition ProCon presentations
- You can find the schedule and the recordings on our website at LWVCS.org/Election-Forums
- Understand what is on your ballot and find other valuable information on Vote 411.
Sunnyvale - Update

Prior to that, he supported Sunnyvale’s utility services in a variety of roles in both the departments of Finance and Public Works.
In League,
Elaine & Tracey
Your Co-Presidents

Students can achieve the CA State Seal of Civic Engagement – with 40,000 voting eligible students, pre-registration and registration are a gold constituency to mine!
Today, 19 states and the District of Columbia allow young people to preregister to vote starting at age 16. These states account for more than 50% of teens in the US. Even in the most age-restrictive states, virtually everyone is old enough to register when they are still in high school. The US Department of Education recently published guidance specifically calling on high schools to incorporate nonpartisan voter registration into their programs.
California and New York both have positive permissive laws to allow young people to register, but neither state has effective implementation. As of August 2024, only 20% of 16- and 17-year-olds are preregistered in New York State, and as of July, under 15% were preregistered in California. Special offers to help are here.
How about your children and grandchildren – are they pre- or registered to vote? Check out this website for special support!

Have YOU Renewed Yet?
We are grateful for your past support and hope that you will continue to support our work through your membership.
Your membership renewal is uniquely time sensitive this year. Our membership system, including our renewal process, will be changing soon. For this reason, we are asking everyone to renew as soon as possible to avoid your annual renewal being caught up in this system change. More information on changes to our membership system will be forthcoming.
Many of our members whose memberships expired in August or will be expiring in the next few months have renewed—Thank you!! If you have not yet renewed and your membership is expiring between now and January, PLEASE renew as soon as possible. Log into your account at www.lwvcs.org to renew.
You can renew early and your membership will still have the same renewal date. For example, if your membership expires on 11/30/24, you renew on 10/2/24, your membership will be good through 11/30/25.
Questions? Please contact Nina Wong-Dobkin at Membership@lwvcs.org.

LWVCA News:
Young people have the potential to be a powerful force in elections, but only if they get involved and make voting a habit.
To encourage students to become active voters once they are old enough to cast a ballot, Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber and Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond invite high school and middle school students, teachers, and principals to participate in the 2024 California Student Mock Election, which will take place on October 8, 2024, for the General Election.
